Feel Good Songs
I love music. It makes me happy. And sometimes, I need a good pop song to get me jamming in the morning, especially on my way to work.
5 Best Feel Good Songs that Millennials and Gen Xers will LOVE
So what are the top 5 feel good songs that have been getting me going this month? See below!
1. Who's That Chick? By David Guetta Featuring Rihanna (released November 2010)
I can’t get enough of this song right now. I pulled it up on YouTube this Friday and listened to it on constant repeat while driving to work. Crazy – right?! I absolutely love this energetic, feel good song. It makes me feel empowered and sexy. It’s fun. It’s about dancing. Specifically, it’s about a girl and a guy french kissing on the dance-floor and dancing the night away. I mean, who could resist some of these feel good lyrics?
Baby, I just wanna dance
Back on the dance floor bad enough to take me home
French kissin’ on the floor, party’s getting hardcore
Who’s that chick? Too cold for you to keep her, too hot for you to leave her
So if you need a good pick me up song, go with “Who’s That Chick?” It gets me dancing in my car on the way to work.
2. Dance Monkey by Tones and I (released May 2019)
“Dance Monkey” was released by Tones and I in 2019, but I only discovered it. (How did it take me so long?!) I first heard it during a West Coast Swing dance social and instantly fell in love. It’s catchy. It’s a perfect mix of sexy, romantic, fun, and mysteriousness. I just love it.
Plus, it’s about dancing. =) Can you see a trend here? I just love songs about dancing.
Lyrics I love from Dance Monkey include
Oh my god, I see the way you shine
Take your hands, my dear, and place them both in mine
Dance for me oh oh oh – I've never seen anybody do the things you do before
But you just beg to see me dance just one more time
3. Over and Over by Hot Chip (released 2006)
I first discovered Hot Chip in college while dancing at an Indie Pop club in San Francisco. (Unfortunately, Popscene is closed now.) “Over and Over” again was first released in 2006, and but this synth-pop song by Hot Chip still puts me in a cool, hipster, Northern Californian mood. It brings me back to my days of living in Oakland, CA and driving to San Francisco to party. It’s a chill, electronic song that’s also energetic and alternative.
I mean, who could resist these simple, feel good lyrics?
Laid back We'll give you play back.
The joy of repetition really is in you,
Under and under and under and under and under,
The spell of repetition really…
4. Distraction by Slaptop (released December 2014)
This song reminds me of dancing on the beach at night in a far off tropical island. I imagine a Corona Light in one hand while I dance the night away in a short, skimpy dress with friends. This feel good song makes me think of coconuts, pineapples, and grooving to good music.
The lyrics are a bit sad (it’s about a guy dancing to forget a girl!), but the beat of the music is seriously addictive.
She ain't the one
I been thinkin' 'bout lately
Miss the way you
Treat me wrong
Hold me tight, Hold me tight; You're the one
All Night Long
5. Just Our Style by Wayfares (released June 2015)
I discovered “Just Our Style” in the comedy “Otherhood” featuring Angela Bassett, Patricia Arquette, and Felicity Huffman. The movie gets pretty bad ratings, but I actually loved it!
“Just Our Style” reminds me of going out with girlfriends and having fun. Not caring what others think. Doing our own thing. Loving life, and living it up. This needs to be your get-ready, feel good song if you are going out dancing for a girl’s night. “Just Our Style” will amp you up and energize you.
I mean, who couldn’t love these feel-good lyrics?
Heartbeat, rewind
Turned up, amplified
We can do it how we like
Bang bang, young drunk
Cheap thrills, big love
Do what makes us feel alive
Love the way we're coming through
And we're shooting for the sky
We'll be young and running wild
6. Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader
The original version of Dancing in the Moonlight is by King Harvest, but the version by Jubel is slightly different and just so chill and relaxing. It reminds me of long summer nights on the beach.
