The main reason?
EltaMD rubs in quickly and it doesn't leave a white cast.
EltaMD vs. La Roche-Posay – SPF
EltaMD comes in SPF 40 and 46, whereas La Roche-Posay comes in SPF 50 or 60.
EltaMD with SPF 40 is the most popular and La Roche-Posay with SPF 60 is the most popular.
The Winner: La Roche-Posay has a higher SPF, but in my opinion, once you get above SPF 30 or 40…there really isn’t much of a difference. I personally find that EltaMD rubs in quicker, so I like EltaMD slightly more.

I usually buy the EltaMD in SPF 40, but SPF 46 is a great option too! Please note that it is TINTED, so pay attention to that.

Elta MD in the 1.7 oz costs $25, whereas you can buy La Roche-Posay sunscreen in 3oz for $21.
So, La Roche-Posay is slightly less expensive.

EltaMD is a mineral-based sunscreen that claims to “moisturize skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.”
La Roche-Posay claims to have a “melt-in sunscreen” that “leaves skin hydrated & smooth.”
Which Sunscreen Doesn’t Leave a White Cast? Elta MD vs. La Roche-Posay
When it comes down to it…THIS is what matters most to me.
La Roche-Posay leaves a HORRIBLE white cast on your face. Check out the Very Easy Makeup YouTube channel to see what La Roche-Posay looks like after application.
In contrast, Elta MD doesn’t leave a white cast on your face.
For this reason, Elta MD is my preferred sunscreen for face.
Which Sunscreen is Better? EltaMD or La Roche-Posay?
Elta MD is my favorite of the two. By a lot! I have a bottle of La Roche-Posay and I’ll probably end up throwing it out.
Unlike La Roche-Posay, EltaMD sunscreen doesn’t leave a white cast on your face and EltaMD is quick and easy to apply.
Plus, EltaMD sunscreen is oil-free, great for acne-prone skin, and works well under makeup.

I find that EltaMD is WAY easier to apply. It sinks into your skin quickly and doesn’t require much to rub in.
In contrast, you really do need to rub in La Roche-Posay. It takes an extra 20 seconds to a minute to apply, which is too much time in my book.
EltaMD vs. La Roche-Posay – Which is Better for the Beach?
I throw my EltaMD sunscreen into my favorite beach bag when I go to the beach.
Yes, La Roche-Posay has a higher SPF, but EltaMD won’t leave my face with a white cast when I reapply.
Tip: Make sure to pack a hat with you when you go to the beach and an umbrella too! That will protect your face from the sun.

Unfortunately, EltaMD is NOT water resistant.
La Roche-Posay IS water resistant for 80 minutes.
