Banana Boat Sunscreen Review
I live in the South and play tennis in the middle of the afternoon, which means I need a GREAT sunscreen.
I honestly hate applying sunscreen (who doesn’t?), but I finally found a sunscreen that I ENJOY putting on in the morning.
Yes – you heard me right. I actually love this sunscreen!
Continue reading for my Banana Boat sunscreen review. Specifically, this is a review of the Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen with SPF 50, which was recently renamed the Banana Boat Dry Balance sunscreen.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review of Sun Comfort and Dry Balance
The focus of this Banana Boat sunscreen review is the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunscreen, which is now called Dry Balance.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review: 5 Things I Like
There are 5 main reasons that the Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen (now called Dry Balance) is a winner in my book in this Banana Boat sunscreen review, and why I picked up three more bottles yesterday on sale!
1. It's Quick and Easy to Apply (#1 Reason It Gets My Glowing Review)
The Banana Boat Sun Comfort SPF 50 sunscreen is actually fun to apply.
You don’t have to “rub” it in. You simply put it on, and it is smooth, soft, and silky.
It’s kind of like applying your favorite skincare lotion. It’s just easy to apply.
2. It Soaks in Quickly
You know those sunscreens where you apply the sunscreen, and then your skin is still white and pasty after 5 minutes?
This isn’t the case with the Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen. I
apply it, smooth it over my skin, and bingo! – It’s all soaked in.
3. It Smells Amazing
I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for a good-smelling sunblock. The Sun Comfort sunscreen by Banana Boat smells tropical. It reminds me of the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess perfume.
When I put on the Sun Comfort Sunblock, I feel like I’m at a tropical resort.
This is one of the top reasons the Banana Boat sunscreen gets 5/5 stars in my review.
4. It's Not Sticky Like Other Sunblocks
I’ve tried the cheaper Up&Up sunblocks from Target. They were sticky and felt yucky on my skin.
Many of the sports sunblocks feel sticky too. The Sun Comfort sunscreen isn’t the least bit sticky.
5. It's Not Watery
I love the Max Block Sunscreen (only $1 at Dollar Tree!) because it is inexpensive and effective. Plus, it smells great.
BUT…it is a bit watery for my taste. In contrast, the consistency of the Sun Comfort sunblock is good.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review: What I Don't Like About Banana Boat Sunscreen
1. It’s Not a Spray
After I put on sunblock in the morning, I prefer to use a spray sunblock because my hands are often dirty (or sweaty) and I don’t want to put the sunblock on my hands and THEN all over my skin.
I tried the Banana Boat Sun Comfort spray and I didn’t like it. It didn’t smell great.
Instead, I use the Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF 50 spray.
2. Banana Boat Sunscreen Rubs Off When Sweating
The Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunblock is not water resistant, so it will come off when you sweat.
I’ll admit that I love the Banana Boat sunblock for daily use (and even for running!), but it doesn’t hold up to my 2-3 hour tennis matches where I’m constantly rubbing off sweat (with the sunblock!) after each game.
Where to Buy Banana Boat Sunscreen
You can buy the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunblock at Target, CVS, and Amazon. I bought mine from TJ Maxx on sale!
I usually order things off Amazon because I’m a prime member and the shipping is free.
High Endurance vs. Water Resistant Banana Boat Sunblock
The Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunscreen says, “High Endurance vs. Water Resistant” on the bottle. Does anyone else know what that means?
I’ll admit…I had to google it.
Water Resistant Sunscreen
Water-resistant sunscreen means that ingredients have been added to allow the sunscreen to adhere to skin when submerged in “swirling water.” (Thanks EltaMD!)
If sunscreen is water resistant, it means that the SPF is maintained for up to 40 minutes in water.
So, the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunscreen is NOT water resistant. That’s okay with me. I hate the sticky feel of the water-resistant sunscreens.
High Endurance Sunscreen
I couldn’t find a definition for “high endurance” sunscreen online.
Basically, it’s Banana Boat’s way of saying, “This isn’t a water-resistant sunblock – but it’s a good one!”
Waterproof Sunscreen
There’s no such thing!
The FDA no longer allows manufacturers to claim that sunscreen is waterproof. They can only claim “water-resistant.”

Banana Boat Sunscreen for “Brushing Off Sand Easily”
I’ll admit. I have no idea what the brand management team at Banana Boat was thinking when they added, “Sand easily brushes off” to the Sun Comfort SPF 50+ sunscreen. I mean…what does that mean?
For Beach Volleyball Players…
If you are like me (and play beach volleyball!), you’ll know that EVERYONE gets sandy while playing in the sand. Whether you are wearing sunscreen or not, you will get sandy. And guess what? It’s no big deal. You wipe off the sand with a brush or a towel and then hop in the shower.
For Beach Goers…
If you go to the beach, sand is usually pretty easy to brush off! You don’t need special sunblock. You just towel off or stand in the sun for 3-5 minutes, and then the sand will brush off easily.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review for the Beach
In summary, I don’t see any point in making the claim that “sand easily brushes off" after using the Banana Boat sunscreen.
Instead, I’ll just say that the Banana Boat Sun Comfort SPF 50+ sunblock is a good price and a great sunscreen that is not sticky, greasy, or watery.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review Summary: I Like Sunblock by Banana Boat!
In summary, I like the Banana Boat sunscreen and the Banana Boat Sun Comfort SPF 50+ sunblock. It was on sale yesterday at TJ Maxx, and I bought three more bottles to last me through summer.
You can buy this sunscreen on Amazon. It’s only $10.
